People think of a radiology report as a summary. It is closer to testimony that happens to be written down.
Every section carries weight. The history frames what I was asked. The technique section is where I record how the study was done and where its limits were, whether there was motion, whether a sequence did not perform. The findings and the impression are my conclusions.
None of that is free to be reworded after the fact. Change a technique line and you erase the record of a scan's limitation. Change the wording of an impression and you have put words I never chose under my name.
I read every part before I sign, because my signature means I stand behind all of it, not just the parts that are convenient.
Precise language is not about sounding careful. It is about a report meaning exactly what it says, to whoever reads it next.
The words are the work. They have to be right.
